No prep time? No problem for the Cougars, as Brigham Young's late scheduled opponent Navy just couldn't ever get untracked in a nationally televised Labor Day contest. The Cougars were dominant offensively and defensively, giving way to thoughts of a possible undefeated season in a piecemeal revamped 8 game  schedule for BYU. Memphis, 37-24 winner over Arkansas State, and Army, 42-0 victor over Middle Tennessee, were also dominant in opening weekend games.
