Penn State dominated Ohio State for 3 quarters Saturday until J. T. Barrett engineered a stunning 4th quarter comeback lifting the Buckeyes to a 39-38 win. The victory vaulted Ohio State to # 4 in the Billingsley Report behind two undefeated SEC teams, Alabama and Georgia, and surprising ACC front runner Miami (Fla.). Iowa State shocked the college football world for the second time this season, beating TCU 14-7 in front of a thrilled sold out home crowd in Ames, Iowa. The Cyclones now control their own destiny in the Big 12 race, win out and the Conference Championship belongs to Iowa State. Around the nation: Oklahoma and Oklahoma State both won setting up a Bedlam match between two Top 12 teams this coming Saturday in Stillwater. Notre Dame beat a good North Carolina State team 35-14 as the Irish continue their march up the rankings ladder. After being drubbed by Notre Dame last week, Southern Cal regrouped, went on the road and blasted Arizona State 48-17. Washington State was not so lucky on their trip to the desert. The Wildcats overwhelmed the Cougars 58-37 to give Arizona the lead in the PAC 12 South. Georgia demolished Florida 42-7 in Jacksonville. Mississippi State marched into Kyle Field and topped the Aggies 35-14 and Kentucky beat hapless Tennessee 29-26.
