The once proud Tennessee football program has hit a new low. In one of the most shocking season openers in college history, Georgia State, a heavy 25-30 point underdog, brought Neyland Stadium to it’s knees Saturday, surprising the Volunteers 38-30. No time to rest. Brigham Young comes to Knoxville this week.
Around the country, the Nation’s Top Teams all rolled as expected. Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and Georgia all prevailed over lesser competition. Oklahoma handled a slightly better team in Houston. LSU vaulted to the top of the Billingsley Report on the strength of beating the Sun Belt’s top team in Georgia Southern. The Bayou Bengals travel to Austin, Texas Saturday in the Nation’s premier college game to take on the Texas Longhorns.
Boise State was impressive in a come from behind win over Florida State as was Auburn against Oregon. The SEC suffered a disappointing weekend with Missouri, South Carolina and Mississippi all falling in their opening games.
