Unless you live in the state of Mississippi you woke up with the uneasy feeling that college football is in chaos this morning. Seven of the Top Ten teams in the Billingsley Report, all previously undefeated, fell from grace this past weekend. Ole Miss created the biggest stir, taking down perennial power Alabama 23-17 in front of a frenzied home crowd pumped up by College Gameday’s appearance in the Grove. Earlier in the day, just a few miles away in Starkville, the Rebel’s arch rival Mississippi State had already dominated Texas A&M 48-31.
Florida State remains #1 followed by Auburn which jumped to the #2 position after demolishing SEC West foe LSU 41-7. Mississippi State is #3 and Ole Miss #4. It’s the first time in CFRC history that both the Rebels and Bulldogs appear in the Top 10 at the same time, much less the Top Five. The Egg Bowl is a long way off, but wouldn’t college football be in for a treat if both these teams remain undefeated? Baylor jumps to #8 and takes the lead position in the Big 12 after TCU’s stunning upset of Oklahoma in Fort Worth dropped the Sooners to #17. The Horned Frogs join the Top 25 this week two spots ahead of Oklahoma at #15. Texas A&M is the highest rated one loss team at #6. Oregon is #9, one position ahead of #10 Michigan state by virtue of the Ducks win over Sparty earlier in the season.
