After a another wild weekend that saw previously unbeaten Ohio State, Oklahoma State and Houston go down in defeat, only Clemson and Iowa remain unblemished. But Clemson is barely holding onto the #1 ranking over the surging Crimson Tide, winner of 8 straight after a shocking home loss to Ole Miss on September 20. Iowa’s poor strength of schedule (#76 of 128) is really hampering the Hawkeyes who only rank #10 in the Billingsley Report, #20 in the Margin of Victory Report, and #7 in Billingsley’s Personal Poll.
It’s unknown as of this posting what effect Notre Dame’s poor performance, a 19-16 win over Boston College, will have on the CFP Selection Committee. Ohio State, with only a 3 point loss on the final play of the game to Michigan State, still ranks ahead of Notre Dame and Oklahoma in this week’s Billingsley Rankings. However, upcoming projections, based on next week’s opponents and new strength of schedule calculation, Oklahoma is projected to leap into the coveted #4 position if they can beat #9 Oklahoma State in Stillwater. The Sooners will play the highest ranked opponent of the three contenders. Ohio State plays #14 Michigan and Notre Dame plays #13 Stanford. All three contests are road games.
